Terenzuola Vigne Basse: A Thrilling Coastal White

Terenzuola Vigne Basse: A Thrilling Coastal White

"A thrilling coastal white inspired by the Hindu concept of Brahman" - The idea of an ultimate, all-encompassing essence that connects everything.

Julia Hardin MW chose Terenzuola Vermentino Vigne Basse as her Wine of the Month for JancisRobinson.com, following our participation in the Dirty Dozen Trade Tastings last month. Describing the wine, she notes, "These are two vintages (2023 & 2024) of a seamless wine unconstrained by borders, crafted by a winemaker who draws inspiration from living and working beyond them."

Terenzuola is based in the coastal Ligurian region of Italy, where the vineyards are shaped by a dramatic landscape of steep, sun-drenched slopes overlooking the Mediterranean. The combination of cooling sea breezes and mineral-rich limestone and clay soils plays a crucial role in the wine’s character. These natural elements lend Vigne Basse its freshness, refined structure, and signature minerality, making it a true reflection of its coastal origins.

At the heart of Terenzuola is winemaker Ivan Giuliani, whose vision is rooted in a deep respect for nature and tradition. Ivan took over his uncle's small vineyard in the 1990s and transformed it into one of the region’s most respected wineries. His approach is centered on organic farming, low intervention, and a commitment to expressing the purity of the land. Giuliani’s wines are thoughtful and precise, capturing the essence of the place while pushing the boundaries of regional winemaking.

The two vintages of Vigne Basse each highlight different nuances of the region. The 2024 is fresh and finely detailed, with "stony citrus, an impression of crushed seashells – and fresh herbs, marked by salty freshness... mostly lemon and grapefruit with mouth-watering freshness, Vermentino with a gentle but definite texture and a lingering salty-fresh finish" (JH). The 2023, available in smaller quantities, is a little rounder, showing "orchard fruits, mostly apple and pear... a hint of spring blossom and fresh herbs" (JH) with a refined mineral finish. Both are beautifully expressive, with the 2024 offering an especially crisp and vibrant take on Vigne Basse.

As the only UK importer, we’re proud to offer both vintages exclusively through Ealing Wine Cellars. To celebrate Julia Hardin MW’s selection, we’re offering free UK delivery on orders of three or more bottles—use code JULIASPICK at checkout.
