2018 Moon Rock Pinot Gris, Waitaki Valley, Crown Range Cellar

Drawing inspiration from the striking selenite crystal deposits near Lake Aviemore, Moon Rock is an enigmatic expression of Pinot Gris crafted in the remote and compelling landscape of New Zealand’s Waitaki Valley. This unique subregion, defined by its cool climate, limestone-rich soils, and otherworldly rock formations, produces wines of purity, texture, and finesse.

On the nose, Moon Rock is delicately perfumed with notes of apple blossom, poached pear, and hints of baking spice. The palate is richly layered, offering generous flavours of baked apple, stewed stone fruits, and an aromatic spice profile of cinnamon, nutmeg, and star anise. Full-bodied and textural, this Pinot Gris delivers a rounded, opulent mouthfeel balanced by a fresh mineral line. The finish is long and luxurious, echoing the wine’s distinctive cool-climate origins.
